Frequently
Asked Questions
Has Memphis ever hosted an Exchange?
Yes, and no. This is our first true Lindy Exchange, though last year we had
a mini-exchange with the Blues & Lindy Weekend, and earlier this year
NewVoBlues hosted Bluesalicious in Memphis. We will be dancing at a lot of
different places, so come on down to check out some great dance halls, downtown
& Beale Street, and more!
What is a Lindy Exchange?
An exchange is a weekend where dancers from different cities, states, and
even countries meet in one city for a weekend of dancing. It's a time to let
loose and have fun. No classes or workshops to worry about means more time
to dance! Exchanges are a great opportunity for newer dancers to get exposure
to dance styles from all over, plus the experience of dancing 3 days straight.
I just started dancing. Will there be classes I can take?
In Memphis, we have weekly classes on Thursday and occasional weekend workshops.
See
www.redhotlindyhop.com for
the schedule. Outside of Memphis, e-mail us at
getinfo@redhotlindyhop.com
and we can direct you to teachers who will be offering private lessons. If
you just started dancing, please join us for the weekend and get lots of great
practice in.
I'm not 21 yet. Will I still be able to get in to everything?
There are no issues getting into our official venues for those under 21. Some
of the other clubs on Beale Street, where we'll be Sunday, may check id's.
Because of anti-smoking regulations in TN, clubs which allow smoking must
be 21+ only.
How can I get to Memphis?
You can fly into Memphis International Airport (MEM) or drive in on I-55,
I-40, or a jillion smaller highways. Please see our travel page on information
on getting to Memphis.
Should I need to rent a car?
Down South, we're pretty hospitable. Your host or other dancers should be
able to take you to the events. If you need a ride to/from the airport or
bus line, please ask your host when you get your housing assignment. Unfortunately,
bus, trolley line, taxi is not a great way to get around Memphis. We have
great museums and fun places all over town to visit [link], but if you want
to visit them, you will need a car. If you're not driving, feel free to post
on our
Facebook
or
Myspace pages to coordinate
sightseeing trips.
Is free housing guaranteed?
We will try to accommodate as many people as possible, however, there are
a limited number of spots. Please register early for housing with local dancers;
if you are staying with a friend locally, please give us their name so we'll
know how to reach you.

What's the weather like in Memphis?
October is usually warm, dry and a great month for fall color in Memphis!
Please check the weather forecast online the week of the event. You may want
to bring a hoodie for when you're leaving the dances, but nights are pretty
balmy.
Can I pay for just one dance?
Pricing for individual events will be available at the door, provided we have
space available (which shouldn't be a problem Saturday). Keep in mind that
prices will be slightly higher if you wait to register for the full weekend
at the event.
Will there be t-shirts for sale?
By special order only - pre-order with registration to get your size.
Please email
getinfo@redhotlindyhop.com
with all other questions. We will respond as soon as we can! See ya on the
dance floor (in Memphis).
